Ballot Power Privacy Policy

Effective Date: June 2026  |  info@ballotpower.org

Ballot Power is a Michigan nonprofit that helps voters understand their ballot, track their absentee ballot status, and find polling places, drop boxes, and early voting sites. This policy explains how we collect, use, and protect your personal information, and how we communicate with you by text and email. Our services are offered exclusively in Michigan and are governed by Michigan law and applicable federal requirements, including the Telephone Consumer Protection Act (TCPA) and the CAN-SPAM Act.

Who We Serve

Ballot Power Users are individuals who interact directly with our Services — voters who visit ballotpower.org and, optionally, sign up to receive ballot status updates. We have a direct relationship with these users and this policy governs our handling of their information.

Customer End Users are individuals whose information is processed on behalf of partner organizations (such as volunteer coordinators using Ballot Power for outreach). Ballot Power acts as a services provider in those cases; the partner organization's own privacy policy governs.

Information We Collect

We collect only what we need to provide the Services:

On behalf of partner organizations, we also use information to enable voter outreach and provide related support.

We may use aggregated, de-identified data for research and product development. We use personal information as required to comply with applicable law, respond to legal process, and prevent fraudulent or unauthorized activity.

Mobile phone numbers collected for SMS communications are used solely to deliver the voter notifications you requested. This information is never sold, leased, shared, or transferred to third parties for marketing, promotional, or any other independent purposes — including to affiliates or partner organizations.

Opt-in consent data (the record of your agreement to receive text messages or email) is collected, stored, and retained exclusively for compliance purposes. It is not shared with or sold to any outside party.

SMS message content is never shared with third parties other than the carriers necessary to transmit messages to your device.
